3.0 Stub Driver Black Sheep
3.0 STUB
The 3.0 STUB is a direct derivative of the long-time-developed, DRIVER 3.0.
A board designed with elite-level surfers chasing the “Ultimate Driving Machine.” Primarily tested in and around the waves of the World Tour (not necessarily the typical 1′-3’ soft slop that most of us battle through daily), the DRIVER 3.0 still left room at the lower end for top-tier performance in lesser waves.
Enter the 3.0 STUB—a stepped-down, stubbed-out, small-wave-ripping machine that delivers low-end, high-performance surfing.
Unlike the Sub-Driver (our other step-down performance board), the 3.0 STUB ditches the vee in the tail. Instead, it features a continuous rocker/concave combination—this is the primary difference between the two. While noticeably more relaxed than the DRIVER 3.0’s rocker, it’s still loose, lively, fast, and quick to release under the rear foot. It fits more effortlessly into tight pockets and quick, dumpy sections than the Sub-Driver, making it perfect for small beach breaks.
The similarities in rocker, bottom contours, and outline ensure a seamless transition between the DRIVER 3.0 and the 3.0 STUB. That was the goal, and that’s exactly what we achieved.
Relaxed entry rocker, with a slightly wider nose area.
Relaxed tail rocker, with a slight hip and a wider tail block (but not as wide as the Sub-Driver).
More overall width, with thickness carried further into the nose and under the rear foot.
Deeper single-to-double concave, for more lift, with plenty of rail curve in lesser surf.
Slightly flatter deck, with soft, forgiving rails.
Working with Kolohe, who—after riding the DRIVER 3.0 in proper surf—wanted a board that felt identical when surfing smaller waves at T-Street or Trestles. Riding the Sub-Driver felt too stiff; he wanted a board that required no adjustment to technique and could swap seamlessly between the DRIVER 3.0 and a step-down version.
“Why not just make a step-down board off that?”
That’s exactly what we did. We put them under the feet of our WQS crew—Crosby Cola, Cole Houshmand, Eli Hanniman, and Michael Dunphy—who immediately backed it and now carry it as part of their small-wave Challenger Series arsenal.
If you’re obsessed with performance surfing and ride high-performance boards—even in average-to-subpar surf—the 3.0 STUB is made for you. Designed to be ridden just 1” shorter than a DRIVER 3.0, and our stock dims reflect that.
Example: If you ride a 6’0” DRIVER 3.0, the 5’11” 3.0 STUB should slot in perfectly.
Together, they make for a flawless duo of modern, high-performance surfboards.
If you think the 3.0 Stub Driver sounds great but you're looking for something that suits bigger, better quality waves then the Driver 3.0 is what you are looking for. The Driver 3.0 is perfect for quality high-performance surfing in good waves. Together they make for a perfectly paired duo of modern, high-performance surfboards.
Please note: Every size range has a different colour lam. Please check with customer service if you'd like to know the colour of the lam in your preferred dims.

BlackSheepBuilt boards begin with lightweight, 1.5lb EPS and utilize the most advanced Triax-NCF (Non-Crimp Fabric) high-quality carbon fibre, to create a fast, responsive and lively surfboard. A board that is both lightweight and flexible, but also surprisingly strong.
The unique performance of BlackSheepBuilt boards comes from the Triax Carbon, which combines a triple-axis +30/-30 layup. It is an un-crimped, multi-directional carbon, which enhances and controls torsional force from rail to rail. Multi-axial carbon fibre is a great alternative to traditional woven carbon fibres because it is made up of alternately aligned layers of unidirectional carbon reinforcement.
WARNING: Carbon Fiber surfboards can easily get hot! They're dark and like all things dark, they soak up the sun and heat. Take care of your board and do not leave it in the sun.
